Turn your closet into a boutique shopping experience!

Before Final closetAfter

For my birthday this year, my husband bought me a consultation with a wardrobe stylist.  During our consultation, Tannya Bernadette said “Your closet should be like your own personal boutique”.  This completely hit home with me.  I had been tolerating our messy, wire shelved closet for years.  I wanted this boutique she spoke of!

With the help of my wonderful husband’s carpentry skills and engineering background and of course, Pinterest, we put together a closet that can truly be called a boutique closet.  It took us a little over 2 full days to do.  I’m sharing the closet with you so that if you are also inspired, it might spark some ideas for you and your own boutique!

We started by stripping the entire closet down to just the bare walls.  Patched up the holes, texture sprayed and painted 3 of the 4 walls.  The 4th wall, I decided to wallpaper, in order to add some elegance and that boutique feel.  I chose a soft green wallpaper with a gold damask pattern.

After some sketching and design discussion, next we built the closet features.  We were going to double our hanging space, add a place for sweaters, purses and other non-hanging items and best of all, build and entire shoe wall.  Now ‘shopping’ for what to wear was going to be so much easier!

We replaced all of our plastic, wire, and miscellaneous hangers with Wood hangers from Walmart (buy them in the store, in the box…they are much cheaper than the exact product on their website for some reason!).  We also replaced the light fixture with a really cute little chandelier from Lowes.

The finishing touches were what I like to call “The vanity wall”.  A framed mirror, some diy jewelry display cases, a diy framed earring hanger and hooks to hang clothing while working on what to wear.  This might be my favorite part of the room, besides the light fixture.  Now I can easily shop for my jewelry and hang outfits up on the hooks when my decision is made.  Much like a fitting room!
